Retort pouches are designed for products that are cooked or sterilised inside the pouch itself. The pouch is filled, sealed (with or without vacuum), and then subjected to high temperature pressurised cooking in a retort vessel.
Retort Process
The process involves cooking the product at high temperature (typically up to 135°C) under pressure. This sterilises the contents, giving the product a long shelf life without refrigeration. The pouch structure must be designed to withstand these extreme conditions while maintaining seal integrity.
